About The Inspection Process and Enforcement Actions

INSPECTION PROCESS

Inspection Frequency:

Inspections are planned using a priority system, which is related to the type of premises and operations, taking into account performance noted at the previous visit.  Separate priority systems are used for health and safety, food hygiene and food standards.

More frequent inspections are carried out at premises that are identified as being high risk in the priority schemes.

Dealing with Contraventions

The different legislation provides various enforcement powers to inspecting officers. Where contraventions are found officers may use formal powers such as issuing Improvement and Prohibition Notices. Offences may also be reported to the Procurator Fiscal.
