SCOTTISH EXECUTIVE PRESENTATION: DOUGLAS ANSDELL

Douglas Ansdell, Head of Gaelic Unit, Scottish Executive, will comment on the Scottish Executive's current priorities for Gaelic development and a consideration of the context that Ministers and officials work within, in supporting the development of Gaelic in Scotland.  In this, consideration will be given to the key elements of progress in the past few years, the benefits that have resulted from these and the areas that require further support.

HIGHLAND 2007 UPDATE

There is circulated report GSC06/06 by the Project Director, providing an update on developments to promote Gaelic language and culture through the Highland 2007 programme.

Members are asked to comment on and note the report.

   
4. GAELIC PLACE NAMES LIAISON COMMITTEE  - DEVELOPMENT PLAN

Following the adoption of a Development Plan, the Gaelic Place names Liaison Committee has taken the decision to formalise its structure and seek funding to take the organisation forward to the next stage.  The Lochaber Area Manager will explain the main aims of the Development Plan and the steps the Committee now intends to follow, with the support of partner organisations.

TOBAR AN DUALCHAIS

There is circulated report GSC07/06 by the Area Manager, Skye and Lochalsh, which informs Members how the project to preserve and improve the accessibility of a vast amount of Gaelic and Scots sound recordings has developed and re-affirms the Council’s support.

Members are invited to note the report.

UPDATE REPORT

There is circulated report GSC08/06 by the Area Manager, Skye and Lochalsh, informing Members of progress on current issues.
