The Coat of Arms as shown above are The Highland Council Coat of Arms as registered with the Lord Lyon in 1996 at Local Government Re-organisation. The design of The Highland Council Coat of Arms incorporates elements of all the former local authorities. The former, eight District Councils and Highland Regional Council Coat of Arms were superseded by the new Highland Council Coat of Arms as above. The former Coat of Arms of each of the following Councils have all reverted to the Crown and cannot be used for any purpose as they belong to the Crown:
