NEW ROAD CROSSING FOR RAIGMORE PUPILS

Local Councillor David Munro joins pupils and parents at the new road crossing.A new pedestrian crossing along Old Perth Road in Inverness will allow pupils from Raigmore Primary School and members of the community to cross the busy road safely.

The new button operated crossing replaces one on the existing site. A patroller will continue to oversee pupils travelling to and from school but the new crossing now means that outwith the school crossing patroller’s hours pupils will be able to cross the road safely.

The crossing was erected as part of the Safer Routes To Schools which is a project designed to encourage pupils to cycle and walk to school. The Highland Council’s Road Safety Officers work with Highland schools to produce travel plans which look at both education and engineering measures that can be put in place to encourage this form of active travel to school.  Engineering Measures, like this one, are funded using Scottish Executives ‘Cycling, Walking and Safer Streets’ funding.
