COMPOST BINS FOR SALE ACROSS THE HIGHLANDS

The Highland Council is supporting International Compost Awareness Week so to encourage more people to compost at home, they are providing compost bins at a special reduced price of £5.

Composting is easy to do at home and is full of benefits for you and the environment.  Not only will you be able to reduce the amount of waste you throw away each week,  you will be able to produce your own nutrient rich compost which will also save you money.

Organic waste that can be composted include fruit and vegetable peelings, tea bags and coffee grounds, grass clippings and leaves.

The ‘Compost Converter’ bins,  which are 330 litres and made from recycled plastic, come with a 20 year manufacterers guarantee.

Anyone living in Caithness, Sutherland, Skye, Badenoch and Strathspey, Nairn, and Ross and Cromarty can pay for their bins at their nearest Service Point and exchange the voucher they receive for a compost bin at any of the following recycling centres.

  • Caithness - Wick Recycling Centre

  • Skye - Portree Recycling Centre

  • Sutherland - Melness, Brora, Bonar Bridge, Lairg or Lochinver Recycling Centres

  • Ross & Cromarty - Ullapool, Tain, Gairloch or Alness Recycling Centres

  • Nairn – the Balblair Council Depot

  • Badenoch & Strathspey – Dalfaber Industrial Estate Depot

The Lochaber Environmental Group in Fort William will also be selling the compost bins so anyone interested should contact them on 01397 700090, and in Inverness there will be a one day sale of compost bins on Saturday 7th May 2005 at Highland Wholefoods,  Unit 6, 13 Harbour Road, Inverness from 10am – 2pm.
