COUNCIL URGES VOLUNTEERS TO HELP CLEAN DUNNET BEACH

Aerial photo of Dunnet Beach - copyright Julian SmithPeople who use Dunnet Beach in Caithness for leisure and recreation are being urged by Highland Council’s Ranger, Mary Legg to join in and help with a beach clean-up on Saturday 7th May starting at 10:30am.

Caithness Ranger, Mary Legg said: “We all enjoy a day at the seaside but Dunnet Beach has taken a real battering this year from the storms and more than the usual amount of litter has been dumped on its sands.

“Already UKAEA with the support of Highland Council’s Transport, Environmental and Community (TEC) Services staff have removed the worst of the material but there is plenty more to collect.

“We are appealing to everyone who uses the beach, whether for walking, sand yachting, surfing or horse riding if they would like to join in on a beach clean this Saturday 7th May.”

Cleaning will commence at 10:30am from both ends of the beach and skips will provided by TEC Services. Bags and gloves for all volunteers will also be provided as will sandwiches at lunch time courtesy of Community Service for Volunteers.

For further information please contact: Mary Legg, Caithness Ranger, The Highland Council, Planning and development Service on 01847 821531.
