BOXES DELIVERED FOR NEW RECYCLING SCHEME

Pictured is Mary Stewart from Manse Road in Nairn receiving her recycling bins from Cllr Liz MacDonald in preparation of the new kerbside collection which will begin in Nairn and Auldearn on Monday 4 April.

Councillor Liz MacDonald, The Area Chairman of TEC Services said: "This new service will make it much easier for people to be able to recycle a lot of their rubbish from their own front door and I would encourage all householders along the new collection routes to make the most of this opportunity. By being a bit more careful about how we dispose of rubbish we can play our part in protecting the environment by reducing the amount of waste which ends up in landfill sites."

The Highland Council has purchased two special vehicles which will collect paper and cans from a blue box and garden waste in a brown wheelie bin, from residents in the area on a fortnightly bases.

Leaflets given information about what items can be recycled and how the new collection will work have already been distributed. Each household will be supplied with a brown wheelie bin for their garden waste and a blue box for their paper and cans.
