HIGHLAND COUNCIL’S DRAFT GAELIC LANGUAGE AND CULTURE SCHEME OUT FOR PUBLIC CONSULTATION

The Highland Councils has drafted a Gaelic Language and Culture Scheme which has been drawn up accordance with the draft Gaelic Language (Scotland) Bill. The Scheme is available for consultation and can be viewed on http://forums.highland.gov.uk/gaelicforum.

As part of the forth coming Gaelic Act, a requirement will be placed on public bodies to produce Gaelic Language Schemes.

The Highland Council is liaising with Bord na Gàidhlig regarding the requirements of the Scheme.

Councillor Hamish Fraser, Chairman of the Council’s Gaelic Select Committee said: "The draft Scheme was approved by the Gaelic Select Committee and we were delighted by the comments received by Members, these comments have been included. We are now at the stage where we are requesting constructive comments from statutory and voluntary organisations, the agencies, and individuals. As Chairman of the Select Committee I look forward to receiving comments from the public."
