Local Government Boundary Commission for Scotland - Single
Transferable Vote - Proportional Representation
New Multi Member Wards for The Highland
Council - Further Consultation 12 Jan 2006 – 9 February 2006
The Local Government Boundary Commission for
Scotland is moving to the end stage of formulating its recommendations for new
multi member wards within the Highland Council. The Local Governance (Scotland)
Act 2004 requires that the Commission should make proposals for the operation of
wards suitable for returning either 3 or 4 members using a single transferable
vote system of proportional representation.
Following consideration of consultation responses to its provisional proposals
published in August 2005, the Commission have since agreed to amend the
structure of Wards 6 & 12 and Wards 20 & 21 as set out in its provisional
proposals. The Commission also agreed that, because of the nature of the
proposed changes to Wards 6 & 12 and Wards 20 & 21, revised proposals for these
wards should be deposited for public consultation and that the consultation
should concern only issues arising from the boundary changes in these wards.
Wards 1 to 5, 7 to 11, 13 to 19 and 22 of the provisional proposals are by
default considered by the Commission to be satisfactory and therefore not
included in the current consultation.
Information of the Commission’s Current consultation can be accessed via their
website through the following link.

Representations on wards 6, 12, 20 and 21 can be made in writing to the
Commission by letter to the above address, by fax to 0131 538 7511, by email to
highland@lgbc-scotland.gov.uk
or by using the proforma reply facility available on the Commission’s web site.
The Commission ask that all comments should be forwarded as soon as possible,
and not later than 9 February 2006.
For a quick reference the Council has prepared a map
(.pdf file 1.7 Mb) which outlines the proposed new ideas in combination with the
other wards now agreed by the Commission following their last consultation on
the provisional proposals.
